MIDIRS welcomed into the RCM family
on 01 April 2019 MIDIRS
Today the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) formally assumes the ownership of Midwives Information and Resource Service (MIDIRS) from the NCT.
The move comes after the previous owners the NCT voted at their AGM in October 2018 to amend the charity’s articles. This enabled the transfer of ownership of MIDIRS to the RCM.
MIDIRS is a service established by midwives providing valued information, research and guidance to support midwives’ work.
Suzanne Tyler the RCM’s Executive Director for Services to Members said; “Incorporating this valuable maternity resource further strengthens the RCM’s services to our members. It will enhance our library and information services, our publishing ventures and makes more high quality evidence based information available to more RCM members.
“MIDIRS is, at its heart, about giving midwives, maternity support workers and student midwives the tools to provide the very best care to women, just like the RCM – we have the same values and aspirations. MIDIRS brings with it a reputation for excellence, high quality and accessible information services.
“The RCM is the only professional organisation and trade union which has maternity as its sole focus, with products and support designed specifically for the maternity team.”
Note to editors
MIDIRS was set up by midwives and is recognised nationally and internationally as an authoritative and valuable information and resource service providing midwives and others with access to research, evidence and guidance on which to base their induvial practice and the services they work in. Transferring MIDIRS from NCT to the RCM will return MIDIRS to its natural home, within the midwifery community and will further strengthen and enhance the services RCM offers through its existing magazines and library.
The RCM is the only trade union and professional association dedicated to serving midwifery and the whole midwifery team. We provide workplace advice and support, professional and clinical guidance and information, and learning opportunities with our broad range of events, conferences and online resources.
