By The Duchess of Cambridge pens open letter to midwives this Christmas on 28 December 2019 Maternity Services Midwives NHS Midwifery RCM MSWs - Maternity Support Workers Royal Family
HRH The Duchess of Cambridge has written an open letter to UK midwives, after spending several days with midwives and maternity support workers at Kingston Hospital’s Maternity Unit earlier this year.
In the letter, the Duchess expresses her admiration for the work that midwives and Maternity Support Workers (MSWs) do, day in, day out. She acknowledges the positive impact they have on the lives of women and babies.
Responding, Gill Walton CEO and General Secretary of the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) said:
“We are delighted that the work of midwives and MSWs has been recognised in this way by HRH the Duchess of Cambridge. Having spent time with RCM members at Kingston Hospital, she has seen first-hand the positive impact good maternity support can have, not only for mother and baby, but the whole family.”
The letter comes on the eve of the World Health Organisation-designated Year of the Midwife in 2020, which the RCM will mark with events across the year.
