The Nursing and Midwifery Council along with eight other health and care regulators has published a joint statement to stress the benefits and importance of good reflection among professionals.
Commenting on the statement ‘Benefits of becoming a reflective practitioner ’ Gill Walton, Chief Executive and General Secretary of the Royal College of Midwives (RCM), said: “The RCM supports the need for a robust and supportive regulatory environment that keeps women safe and enables midwives to be the best they can be.
“We are pleased that the healthcare regulators are working together to promote an honest and open culture. Midwives learn the power and value of reflection from their earliest training and their on-going development is based on self-awareness and self-challenge.
“The success and popularity of our i-learn platform* with over twenty thousand users demonstrates midwives’ commitment to reflecting on and continually improving their practice. We hope to see this joint statement taken up by midwife managers everywhere to embed that culture of self-reflection.”
