The Royal College of Midwives (RCM) has welcomed today’s announcement by the Scottish Government of a judge-led public inquiry into the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gill Adgie, Interim Director for Scotland at the RCM, said:

“Throughout this pandemic, maternity services have remained open across Scotland, supporting women and families during confusing and troubling times. Learning the lessons of delivering services – and, most importantly, delivering care – under such extreme pressure isn’t just about what has gone wrong. We know that many maternity services have innovated to make sure the women in their care continue to receive the support they need. We must ensure that we capture this and apply it in practice outside the pandemic too.”

The RCM will reflect its members’ experience in its submission to the inquiry.
