Leading Welsh midwife honoured by Royal College

A leading Welsh midwife has received a prestigious Royal College of Midwives (RCM) Fellowship for her contribution to midwifery. Dr Suzanne Hardacre received her Fellowship at the RCM’s Education and Research Conference in Birmingham on 28 March.

Suzanne is currently Director of Midwifery at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board. She has a keen interest in public health, having completed her Doctorate of Advanced Healthcare Practice in 2022 looking at the experience of pregnant women being offered the influenza vaccination in pregnancy.

On receiving her award, Dr Hardacre said: “I am absolutely thrilled to have been awarded a Royal College of Midwives Fellowship. I am proud to be a midwife with over 25 years’ experience in a variety of roles, more recently honoured to be appointed as Director of Midwifery. Working alongside such dedicated multi-professional teams providing strategic leadership is a privilege. My role provides opportunity to ensure our population health needs are met and that those who are most vulnerable in our society are heard through co-production, partnership working, safe, effective and compassionate evidence-based care. Being awarded a fellowship is a real privilege and I very much look forward to using this opportunity to promote and support our midwifery and support worker colleagues to learn, grow and develop.”

Rebeccah Davies, President of the RCM, said: “Suzanne has made a huge contribution to midwifery in Wales over the last three decades. She has been leading Wales largest health board and has been recognised for her research into the influenza vaccine in pregnant women. She thoroughly deserves to be recognised for her contribution to midwifery.”
