RCM calls for change to law after no midwife appointed to NMC Council
Awards RCM Annual Midwifery Awards
The RCM has expressed its deep disappointment and called for an amendment to the legislation after the NMC failed to appoint a midwife to its governing Council.
In a letter to NMC Chair Philip Graf, Gill Walton said it is clear that the new rules, with which the RCM strongly disagreed, are fundamentally flawed. The absence of a qualified midwife on the Council, she wrote, “does not allow for the expertise of midwifery on the Council to keep midwives and the public safe”.
The RCM will press for an amendment to the legislation to ensure a midwifery voice is both present and heard on the regulatory Council.
