RCM team climb a mountain and raise nearly £3k for midwives in need

Nursing aching limbs and throbbing feet nine Team RCM staff and members went up a mountain and came back down having raised over £3000 so far for the RCM’s Benevolent Fund. The team took on all 3,560 ft of Wales’s Mount Snowdon on 3 July.

The group were aiming to raise at least £250 each for the fund and have already exceed that having raised nearly £3000, with donations still coming in. The fund supports RCM members in financial difficulty.

“We had two aims for the fundraising effort. To raise money for the RCM’s Benevolent Fund and to raise its profile, and I think we have succeeded on both counts,” said Suzanne Tyler, the RCM’s Executive Director for Services to Members.  “There was a lot of social media buzz around it between members and I hope this encourages those in need to apply for help from the fund, and for others to support it with contributions.”

A target had been set of getting up and down the hill in 6-7 hours. They came in right on schedule at six and a half hours, despite changeable and sometimes inclement weather.

The hardy hikers that tackled the mountain were Barbara Narey, Richard Blakeley, Nick Child, Suzanne Tyler, Carmel Lloyd, Robert Murtagh, Lynne Galvin, Rae Trotter and Denise Linay.

‘After a very anxious night’s sleep hoping my new walking boots didn’t rub too much and praying, I didn’t slow down the group, I climbed Snowden. We completed the climb as a team and it was great to catch up with colleagues face to face and not via a screen,” Said Rae trotter, a RCM Senior organiser. “It was a privilege to raise money for such a worthy cause, but it was also a blessed relief when I could eventually lie down.”
