NIHR launches new research leadership programme
By Hollie Ewers on 01 November 2018 Healthcare Professionals Research NIHR - National Institute for Health Research
The 70@70 NIHR Senior Nurse and Midwife Research Leader Programme was launched today (1 November) by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).
Aimed at senior midwife and nurse clinical leaders it is hoped that the programme will drive improvements in future care and strengthen the research voice.
There will be 70 successful applicants, all with experience of building a research-led care environment for patients, and a record of developing existing practice, working within and contributing to a research rich environment.
They will form a new community of senior clinical midwives and nurses, who will champion the promotion of an embedded research active culture, encourage and support innovation, and inform research priorities in their organisations.
Through protected time they will be able to dedicate two days a week (over a period of three years) to fostering a culture of innovation, with the ultimate goal of delivering high quality, evidenced-based midwifery, nursing and healthcare practice.
NIHR associate director of nursing and 70@70 programme director Clare Meachin said: ‘Midwives and nurses are by far the largest group of healthcare professionals and have such an important contribution to make to research delivery.
‘70@70 will strengthen the research voice and influence of midwives and nurses in NHS provider organisations. The programme provides the space and time to share learning across teams, organisations and the NHS.’
Applications to join cohort one are now open. The closing date is 30 November 2018. Apply here.
