Pay consultation extended

The RCM has extended its deadline for members to vote on the proposed NHS pay deal.

The online consultation has been extended until 6 June and the RCM is urging its members to have their say on the proposed pay agreement offered by the government.

The pay agreement will see midwives and MSWs receive pay increases of at least 6.5% over three years, and an additional 1.1% in year two of the deal for those on the top of their pay band. Some staff will see increases of even more.

The agreement will also mean that staff progress through the pay bands and reach the top of each band quicker, as the number of increments in each pay band will be reduced. Starting salaries will also increase.

The deal negotiated by the RCM and other unions also means that unsocial hours payments, annual leave entitlements and sick pay have all been protected as part of the deal.

The RCM board is recommending that members accept the proposals as the best that can be achieved through negotiation, and the start of ending the pay restraint that midwives and MSWs have endured since 2010.

RCM members were invited to take part in the consultation, but this is now closed.
